Keith Butcher, of Conisbrough Heritage, very kindly contacted us with some photographs of his particular interest - the Mexbrough and Swinton Trackless, especially  the Sunbeam F1.

Keith used to work at Mexborough Garage (which you can partly see in the top photo), along with foreman Ernie McCall and workers Dave Greaseson, Morris Hurral and Arthur Smalley. It was owned by George Woodhead.

Features: Trackless in action


A beautiful shot in many ways, not least because it shows the end of Bank Street as it meets Adwick Road and Doncaster Road. St John's C of E School (The National) looms behind the cafe, and you can just see the entrance to Pinfold Lands; The entrance to the forecourt of the Esso garage is on the left, and the tall-chimneyed houses at the end of Bank Street loom large, and a mum heaves a pram the size of a handcart on the left.


A trackless makes its way out of the depot at the bottom of Doncaster/Pastures Roads. Far right you can glimpse the headgear of Denaby Main pit.
